%26nbsp%3B%0AU.S.%20%23B2%0A2002%20Heroes%20of%202001%20%0ASemipostal%0A%26nbsp%3B%0AIssue%20Date%3A%20June%207%2C2002%0ACity%3A%20New%20York%2C%20New%20York%0AQuantity%3A%20204%2C000%2C000%0APrinted%20By%3A%20Ashton%20Potter%20(USA)%20LTD.%0APrinting%20Method%3A%20Lithograph%0APerforations%3A%2011%20%26frac14%3B%26nbsp%3B%0AColor%3A%20Multicolored%0A%26nbsp%3B%0A%0AHeroes%20Of%202001%20Semi-Postal%0A%0AOn%20June%207%2C%202002%2C%20the%20USPS%20issued%20the%20Heroes%20of%202001%20Semi-Postal%20stamp.%0A%0AFollowing%20the%20September%2011%20terrorist%20attacks%2C%20many%20people%20wanted%20to%20help%20the%20families%20of%20those%20emergency%20workers%20who%20were%20killed%20or%20critically%20injured%20responding%20to%20the%20attacks.%26nbsp%3B%20On%20November%2012%2C%202001%2C%20Congress%20passed%20the%209%2F11%20Heroes%20Stamp%20Act%20of%202001.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20act%20permitted%20the%20USPS%20to%20produce%20a%20semi-postal%20stamp%20to%20raise%20money%20for%20these%20families.%0AThe%20stamp%20artwork%20was%20based%20on%20a%20photo%20taken%20by%20photographer%20Thomas%20Franklin%20of%20three%20weary%20firefighters%20raising%20a%20flag%20over%20the%20rubble%20that%20had%20been%20the%20World%20Trade%20Center.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20stamp%20covered%20the%2034%26cent%3B%20first-class%20postage%20rate%20and%20included%20an%2011%26cent%3B%20surcharge%20that%20would%20be%20deposited%20into%20a%20fund%20for%20the%20families.%0A%0AThe%20stamp%20went%20on%20sale%20on%20June%207%2C%202002.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20First%20Day%20of%20Issue%20ceremony%20was%20held%20on%20the%20Lawn%20at%20Battery%20Park%20in%20New%20York%20City.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20ceremony%20included%20a%20presentation%20of%20colors%20as%20well%20as%20speeches%20by%20the%20governor%20of%20New%20York%2C%20the%20Secretary%20of%20Housing%20and%20Urban%20Development%2C%20and%20several%20senators.%0A%0A%0AThe%20stamp%20remained%20on%20sale%20through%20December%202004%2C%20with%20a%20total%20of%20133%20million%20being%20sold.%26nbsp%3B%20During%20the%20two-plus%20years%20it%20was%20on%20sale%2C%20the%20stamp%20raised%20%2410%2C565%2C073.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20money%20raised%20was%20given%20to%20the%20Federal%20Emergency%20Management%20Agency%20(FEMA)%2C%20which%20would%20then%20distribute%20the%20funds%20to%20the%20families%20of%20emergency%20responders%20killed%20or%20disabled%20during%20the%209%2F11%20attacks%20on%20New%20York%2C%20the%20Pentagon%2C%20and%20Shanksville%2C%20Pennsylvania.%26nbsp%3B%20About%201%2C000%20people%20or%20families%20were%20eligible%20to%20receive%20aid%2C%20and%20each%20received%20about%20%2410%2C000.%0A%0A%0A%26nbsp%3B%0A%0A%0A%26nbsp%3B%0A%26nbsp%3B
