The first step of a truly professional gelcoat finish, our Perfect-it™ Gelcoat Heavy Cutting Compound is our fastest-cutting compound for heavily-oxidized gelcoat surfaces. Its premium chemical and mineral formula quickly removes heavy oxidation, weathering, dulling, chalking and scratches P800 or finer. This formula leaves a high gloss finish — on many surfaces, a polishing step is not necessary before waxing. The compound also has a long wet time, allowing you to compound longer before you need new material. You use less product even in warmer climates, yet it handles well and does not clog on the buffing pad.

The 3M 5973, Rubbing Compound is a specially designed medium cutting compound for rubbing out 1200, 1500, and 2000 sanding scratches in automotive paints including clearcoats. 3M 5973 Rubbing Compound produces minimal compound swirl marks while buffing to a high gloss. When followed by the 3M Perfect-It Foam Polishing Pad Glaze, (i.e. 5995, 5996) this two step system delivers a show-car luster in record time.
