The dedication on the reverse reads: In Memory of an affectionate Brother Died Jan 2nd, 1824 Aged 36. In the Georgian and Victorian eras, woven hair art was used to memorialize a departed loved one or given as a keepsake memorial for a loved one in their absence. This pin clearly kept a dear brother in an intimate proximity.
