The worth of a leather backstitch awl is in how well it pushes apart the seam’s thread so you can put your needle through. It can be disheartening to get all the way to the end of a seam and then pierce the thread on those final backstitches. Our custom-made backstitch awl uses a thinner 1.5mm diameter blade, so you don’t have to struggle to make a space between your threads. It is extremely sharp and is made for its single purpose. Use our marking awl if you need to lay out a pattern, and save this awl for sewing. The handle has a traditional bulb design reinterpreted with a hexagonal shape, so it doesn’t roll away but still feels comfortable in your hand.
