Bottle Tree is named for its attractive trunk that tends to be thick near the base and tapers toward the top of the tree, resembling a bottle. Growing quickly and remaining narrow in youth, this evergreen tree provides dense shade and is useful as a vertical accent when planted alone in the landscape, or as a background screen or windbreak when planted in groups or rows. Bright green leaves are attached to the tree’s branches by long petioles, allowing them to shimmer in the breeze, and giving Bottle Tree an overall glittering effect in the wind. Whitish, bell-shaped flowers with pink speckles appear in spring, followed by decorative seed pods in late summer.
