These are bread stamps used in the preparation of the round loaves used in the eucharistic service of the Orthodox Church. This selection was hand carved by a very old Ukrainian man. They were displayed at Emmaus House in Harlem, New York on the occasion of a church bread (prosphora) baking seminar. The use of bread stamps has a very old history and goes at least as far back as bakeries in the Roman empire.
