The LED light is positioned directly above the miter saw blade and casts a shadow of the blade kerf directly onto the piece being cut. The benefit of the blade shadow is that it shows the exact location of the cut and how much the kerf will take away. Side benefit: The XPS light cross-cut positioning system also brightens the piece you are working on. So the difference between dewalt dws779 and dws780 is just the XPS work light and thats it. </p>
