Description

We hiked up Stone Creek (RM 131.8) to a waterfall. The Guides referred to these as Velcro plants. "The large, waxy, translucent flowers of desert rock nettle are appealing from a distance but will punish those who pick them. The entire plant cloaks itself in stinging hairs in an attempt to defend itself. . . In the Grand Canyon, it lives in rocky crevices on cliff faces in side canyons and dry rocky slopes from the Bright Angel Trail downstream to Grand Wash Cliffs. . . . Desert Bighorn sheep occasionally browse this plant." Source "River and Desert Plants of the Grand Canyon" Kristin Huisinga, Lori Makarich and Kate Watters. Page 182.
