In 1917 a massive explosion flattened most of northern Halifax, Nova Scotia. In an attempt to convince people to move back, the replacement houses were made from hydrostone - which is fireproof. The result was one of the most beautiful "community housing projects" ever. This area is considered a National Historic Site.
