Kingwood, or Prince’s wood, is a wood so coveted, so fine, it was once reserved only for inlays in royal furniture. Until the 17th century, it was the most expensive wood available, and could only be purchased in small quantities fit for things like chess pieces, billiard cues, and now rings.
