Blades that are not stropped after sharpening will quickly become dull, the reason for this is sharpening with a whetstone or oil strong will leave thousands of microscopic jagged scores along your blade, this rough finish is like a microscopic serrated edge that will quickly wear down after only a few uses. Stropping hones your blade and removes these jagged edges, ensuring a long lasting sharpness. To use this strop, simply apply jewellers rouge to the leather side starting with the flesh side first, stropping in a direction perpendicular to the movement you used on your whetstone, repeat several times, before moving to the smoother, full-grain leather side of the strop.
