Lily of the Valley Convallaria majalis Common names include, May bells, Our Lady's tears and Mary's tears. A pretty woodland flowering plant producing sweetly scented, bell-shaped, white flowers in the spring. One of the most fragrant spring and early summer plants, lily of the valley thrives in fertile, humus-rich moist soil in full and partial shade. It spreads quickly in favourable conditions to produce a large carpet of delicate white flowers. Ideal for cottage and informal gardens and underplanting roses and shrubs. It also grows well in containers. Spring wildflower bulbs 'in the green' are supplied when they are actively growing. This can be a more reliable way to transplant species such as bluebells, aconites and snowdrops, and for all wildflower bulb species the plants can be more quickly and easily established than from dormant bulbs planted in autumn. Wildflower bulbs in the green can be easier to plant as it is clear where the bulbs have been positioned. In most cases, the plants will flower the following spring.
