The Crayola color Scarlet was released in 1998 as a crayon. Its original release name was Torch Red, named by a winner of a 1997 Search for True Blue Heroes contest. The Torch Red crayon was only available for about a year before being replaced. When the color changed its' name to Scarlet in 1999, it replaced Goldenrod in the No. 24 and No. 32 boxes and Aquamarine in the No. 48, No. 64 and No. 96 boxes.
