EXTRA LARGE JAPANESE SILK PAPER BY WEROLA Japanese silk paper is a luxuriously soft, strong, and richly colored craft paper. The paper is more firm than regular tissue paper and the colors much brighter, but above all, our Japanese Silk Paper is fully FSC certified. Our gorgeous Japanese Silk Paper is made in Italy for Werola, the German company known for their high quality craft papers (silk paper, crepe paper, tissue paper). It is available in 22 bright colors, white and 5 metallic colors. The colors and white are 21 g/m² and the metallic colors are made of 25 g/m². Each color is sold as a 20 sheet set: 19.68 x 29.92 inches (50x76 cm), with 1 fold for $8. That's just 40 cents per sheet. That's phenomenal for European made Japanese Silk Paper of this size. MINIMUM PURCHASE NECESSARY Due to the cost to ship such a large piece that must remain flat, there is a minimum purchase of $20.00 worth of the Large Japanese Silk Paper Sheet packs for checkout to work. It’s easy to confuse Japanese silk paper with actual silk paper. Actual silk paper is made using silk fibers. But Japanese silk paper is not. Japanese silk paper is a thin paper, like tissue paper, but is much stronger. It is made from plant fibers. Japanese silk paper gets its name from the silky feel of the paper once formed and is made using ancient Japanese techniques. WHAT PLANT FIBERS ARE JAPANESE SILK PAPER MADE FROM? It can be made from fibers of many different plants, including the kōzo plant (Broussonetia papyrifera, paper mulberry tree), the mitsumata (Edgeworthia chrysantha) shrub and the gampi tree (Diplomorpha sikokiana). HOW IS JAPANESE SILK PAPER MADE Although this is an oversimplification of the process, basically, the pulp from these plants are cooked in an alkaline solution, rinsed, beaten and formed into paper. It can be made today with a machine or using a traditional screen. WHAT CAN I USE JAPANESE SILK PAPER FOR? The resulting tissue paper is surprisingly strong, takes on color beautifully and can be used in a variety of craft and non craft ways. Use it to make paper lanterns, window stars, semi-transparent window scenes, handmade cards, mobiles, collages, all those fun preschool arts and crafts projects,… If it can be made with tissue paper, it can be made with Japanese Silk Paper.
