Splines are very useful for modeling arbitrary functions, and are used extensively in computer graphics. Cubic splines are implemented in the Wolfram Language as BSplineCurve[pts, SplineDegree -> 3] (red), Bézier curves as BezierCurve[pts] (blue), and B-splines as BSplineCurve[pts].
