A step-by-step tutorial on fair isle knitting for beginners. How to get started, how to get floats, using a knitting thimble & important tips.
For Fair Isle knitting, you only need your standard knitting needles, two yarns of the same quality, and a bit of patience. If you know how to cast on and knit the knit stitch, you are already set.
Do know then, that there is not just one way to knit Fair Isle. For now, I will show you the - in my opinion - easiest way for continental knitters without using any special tools (see below if you want to know how to use a knitting thimble).
Important: It's much easier to knit Fair Isle in the round. I am showing you the basic technique flat so there are no additional needles/wrong side obstructing the view.
