This was a huge pile of soil pushed up out of the way of some construction site in Berks County, PA. A lot of this orange brown clay in se PA. It is a good clay that draines well. usually slightly acid. Probably is what is technically called a Ultisol. The soil in 3/4 of my yard is this with a pH of 6.8. Behind that i have some silty topsoil with pH 6.2. Clay soil is not always bad. This clay is good and almost all my plants have done well with it. The bad clay soil is the compacted subsoil left after modern construction.
