Hello Egyptology Lovers,This is my hand drawn artwork in hieroglyphs of the famous ‘Hymn to the Aten’.The papyrus is made of of four smaller pieces, glued together to make one large sheet which measures 23.5” (60cm) x 15.5” (40 Cm).The hymn to the aten is made famous by the ‘heretic’ pharaoh Akhenaten (𓇋𓏏𓈖𓇳 𓅜𓐍𓈖) “3ḫ-n-ı͗tn” ‘The Spirit of Aten’. Akhenaten, used to be known as Amenhotep IV, but decided to change his name and the entire polytheistic religion of ancient Egypt to a monotheist one. He wanted all of Egypt to worship the one single god, ‘the Aten’ (the sun disk).Alas, his revolution did not last, and ended with his son’s reign (Tutankhamun). And eventually, almost all traces of the pharaoh and his new religion was obliterated from history. The hymns can still be found in some royal tombs, a testament to once idealistic belief. I am a great enthusiast of ancient Egyptian culture and aim to replicate much of their works.
